(4) Interface options. UMD installs electronic modules
into the cash drawers for other interface requirements.
There are two modules T type (Trigger) and I type (Intelligent).
T-type (Trigger) These modules are connected to either an RS232 serial or parallel port (dependant on cable only). Any data sent to the port will trigger the cash drawer to open. Both T type drawer and printer may be connected to a single port via a "y" cable. This arrangement is generally suitable for most POS applications as cash drawers opens each time a receipt is printed. Cables for Triggers interfaces are shown below: | |

I-Type (Intelligent). Intelligent cash drawers are used where only a single serial port is available for POS peripherals. The Intelligent cash drawer has one serial port for connection to the host system or PC and a second auxiliary port for attachments to peripherals such as printers. The intelligent cash drawer looks for a specific, user configured, control sequence which opens the cash drawer. All other data is passed through to the auxiliary serial port.
